Jagtial: Widows of the victims of the Gulf region are gearing up to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections by submitting a significant number of nominations, establishing themselves as a formidable force to be reckoned with. The impact of the Gulf strike is expected to be substantial this time, as these resilient women are poised to make their mark in 32 constituencies directly affected by developments in the Gulf. The “Gulf Shramikula Hakkula Udyamakarulu” is actively working towards empowering these widows to engage in this political endeavor.

This bold move towards a “political struggle” is likely to give rise to new political formations in North Telangana. Representatives from The Gulf JAC and the Gulf Workers’ Political Forum are currently engaged in discussions with various workers’ unions, people’s organizations, and intellectuals. It is estimated that there are over 1.5 million laborers from Telangana who reside in the Gulf countries. Over the past decade, around 1.5 million workers have returned to their homeland, eagerly awaiting the government’s promised assistance of Rs. 5 lakh as ex-gratia payment, along with an annual budget of Rs. 500 crore. Unfortunately, they continue to face unemployment.

Had local resources been utilized to establish industries and the agricultural sector been given a substantial boost, the predicament of these returning workers would have been alleviated to some extent. If the families of Gulf victims unite, they have the potential to become a voting bloc of one crore strong. The sheer magnitude of this voting bloc is expected to have a decisive impact on the forthcoming elections, as political analysts have already pointed out to various political parties.
