Ahmedabad: A team of journalists from Telangana, currently on a Gujarat tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad, visited the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) facility and the Sabarmati High-Speed Rail Multimodal Hub in Ahmedabad.
The visit was led by PIB official Gayathri. During the visit, NHSRCL DGM (Civil) Aditya Singh and NHSRCL PRO Arun Barot briefed the journalists about the construction, design and key features of the multimodal hub and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project.
The Sabarmati High-Speed Rail Multimodal Hub has been developed as a state-of-the-art facility aimed at providing seamless connectivity between the existing Sabarmati railway stations, Metro station, the upcoming Sabarmati Bullet Train station and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
Seamless connectivity between multiple transport modes
The hub is an integral part of India’s first Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. The facility will enable passengers to conveniently shift between different modes of transport, including the Bullet Train, Indian Railways, Metro and BRTS.
The building features a spacious concourse with passenger amenities such as waiting lounges, retail outlets and restaurants. Dedicated pick-up and drop-off areas and parking facilities have also been provided for passenger convenience.
Blend of modern infrastructure and heritage
One of the major attractions of the hub is its large stainless-steel mural depicting the historic Dandi March, reflecting the significance of Sabarmati in India’s freedom movement.
The building also incorporates landscaped areas and step gardens featuring indigenous plant varieties, blending modern architecture with the cultural and historical character of Ahmedabad.
Focus on sustainability
Sustainability has been given special importance in the design of the hub. Solar panels, energy-efficient fixtures, landscaped terraces and gardens, and extensive use of natural light are among the green features incorporated into the facility.
The Sabarmati Hub has also received an IGBC Gold Rating, becoming the first building associated with India’s Bullet Train project to receive the green building certification.
A rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 700 kWp has also been installed at the hub, further strengthening its focus on renewable energy.
Parking for around 1,200 vehicles
The hub includes ample parking facilities capable of accommodating around 1,200 vehicles, along with dedicated pick-up and drop-off bays. The facility also includes office spaces and a hotel component with rooms, banquet and conference facilities, a swimming pool and restaurant.
The Telangana journalists’ team interacted with NHSRCL officials and learnt about the project’s technological features, passenger facilities, multimodal connectivity and sustainability initiatives. The visit provided the journalists with an insight into the infrastructure being developed as part of India’s first high-speed rail project.
