Hyderabad: Based on the life and legacy of Telangana’s legendary warrior Sardar Sarvai Papanna, the historical film ‘Sardar Sarvai Papanna – The Rebel King of Deccan’ has successfully entered its second week in theatres. The film has been receiving positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth from audiences, while also becoming a talking point on social media.
Speaking on the response to the film, director and producer Venkatesh Goud Lingampalli said he was extremely happy with the appreciation coming from audiences after the film’s release. He said viewers have been praising both the historical aspects of the film and its technological presentation. More importantly, he said, it was particularly gratifying to see audiences developing an interest in learning more about the life and history of Sardar Sarvai Papanna after watching the film.
Venkatesh Goud expressed his gratitude to the media for its support and encouragement. He said the positive reviews from leading media organisations were the “greatest award” for the hard work put in by the entire team. He credited the collective efforts of every member of the cast and crew for taking the film successfully to theatres.
He said bringing the history of Sardar Sarvai Papanna to the big screen was far from an ordinary journey. The filmmakers wanted to present the historical figure’s life, struggles, courage, self-respect and the social conditions of his era in a manner that would be easily understood by today’s generation.
“We did not want to present Papanna’s history merely as an action story. We tried to showcase his fighting spirit, self-respect and the circumstances of his time in a way that audiences could understand. Our primary objective is to take his history to a much wider audience across the country,” Venkatesh Goud said.
He said incorporating AI-based animation technology into the film was a challenging experiment for the team. However, the filmmakers took special care to ensure that the use of technology did not compromise the emotional connect of the story.
“If a viewer feels inspired to learn more about Sardar Sarvai Papanna after watching our film, I would consider that the film has achieved at least part of its objective,” he said.
Venkatesh Goud also emphasised that Sardar Sarvai Papanna’s history should not be viewed as the history of just one social community. According to him, Papanna remains an important historical figure in the history of Telangana, and his struggle deserves to be known by everyone.
“Our children should know the history of our region. Our youth should learn about the historical personalities who were born on this soil. Instead of competing over who was greater or smaller, it is important to learn about every great personality who shaped our history,” he said.
The filmmaker said the team aims to take the film beyond the Telugu states and reach Telugu audiences living in different parts of the country. He also revealed that there are plans to introduce the story of Sardar Sarvai Papanna to a wider audience through other languages in the future.
“A film may end, and a theatrical run may end, but history never ends. Our efforts will continue until the history of Sardar Sarvai Papanna reaches more and more people. His fighting spirit should reach today’s generation, and his courage should become an inspiration for the youth,” Venkatesh Goud Lingampalli said.
Meanwhile, ‘Sardar Sarvai Papanna – The Rebel King of Deccan’ continues its successful theatrical run in its second week, riding on positive word of mouth and growing audience appreciation.
