- Grand Celebrations at Khilashapur
The 375th birth anniversary celebrations of the valiant warrior Sardar Sarvai Papanna, who bravely resisted the Mughal army and hoisted the Bahujan flag on the Golconda Fort, were held grandly at Khilashapur Fort in Jangaon district. On this occasion, the documentary movie poster of “Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud” was unveiled in memory of his heroism.
The program took place in Papanna’s native village, Khilashapur, where Telangana activist and senior journalist Pasham Yadagiri, Hind Mazdoor Sabha leader Eshwar Prasad, Gaddar Galam founder Kolluru Sattayya, and Journalist Swamy Muddam paid floral tributes to Papanna’s statue. Later, the film project was formally launched at Khilashapur Fort.
Speaking on the occasion, Pasham Yadagiri said, “Papanna’s history has faded here, but it is well-documented in the Victoria Museum in London. This generation must learn about such a great warrior. Through this film being made by Swamy Muddam with the use of modern technology, the history of Papanna—who united oppressed communities and fought for them—will be brought to light.”
Journalist-director Muddam Swami stated, “Our aim is to present this rare and glorious history, which never found a place in academic curriculum, to the new generation. With the use of advanced graphics and artificial technology, the film will stand out as a historic cinematic experience.”
Earlier, at an event held at Bhongir Fort, sky lanterns were released and tributes were paid at Papanna’s statue. Leaders from various political parties, Telangana activists, Bahujan ideologues, social organization leaders, and Papanna’s followers participated in large numbers in the celebrations.
