Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government is taking determined steps to develop Telangana into the textile capital of South Asia by 2047. He inaugurated the 13th Asian Textile Conference (ATEXCON 2026) held at HICC–Novotel, Hitec City, Hyderabad, on Friday.

The international conference, organized under the theme “Reimagining the Future of Global Textiles,” witnessed the participation of industrialists, policymakers, and experts from India and abroad.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the textile sector is deeply embedded in Telangana’s cultural and economic identity. He recalled that Hyderabad had been a major global textile trade center since the Nizam era. He highlighted the state’s rich handloom heritage, including Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal sarees, Warangal durries, and Narayanpet handlooms, which continue to showcase Telangana’s craftsmanship to the world.

Revanth Reddy assured investors that the government would provide land, electricity, water, infrastructure, and fast-track approvals to support textile investments. “Telangana is not just a state—it is a reliable partner for investments,” he emphasized.

During the conference, the Chief Minister released a Knowledge Paper outlining transformations and future directions in the textile sector. He also visited the Telangana Heritage Display Pavilion and appreciated the skills of the state’s handloom weavers.

Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Duddilla Sridhar Babu, TGIIC Chairperson Thoorpu Nirmala Jaggareddy, and Industries Department Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer participated in the event and addressed the gathering.

Panel discussions focused on emerging global textile innovations, circular economy practices, natural dye usage, waste management strategies, and sustainability initiatives. Officials also explained the importance of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) in strengthening skill development in the textile sector.

Industries Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer and IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu briefed investors about opportunities in Telangana, particularly the progress of PM MITRA Parks and the availability of industrial infrastructure. A special roundtable meeting was also conducted on investment prospects in the state.

Representatives of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry stated that ATEXCON 2026 would serve as a roadmap for strengthening India’s role in the global textile value chain. Participants at the valedictory session observed that the conference would further position Telangana prominently on the global textile map.
