Hyderabad: The annual Alai Balai Dasara Sammelanam was celebrated with grandeur at the Exhibition Grounds under the leadership of former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya’s daughter, Vijayalakshmi. With the theme “Operation Sindhoor,” the festivities began as Dattatreya inaugurated the event to the rhythmic beats of dhols.

The gathering witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities from politics, judiciary, cinema, and social fields. Among them were former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan’s successor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, former Chief Justice of India Justice N.V. Ramana, MP K. Laxman, renowned film actors Nagarjuna and Brahmanandam, MLA Sujana Chowdhary, TPCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, CPI leader K. Narayana, Professor Kodandaram, former MP V. Hanumantha Rao, MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga and others. Dattatreya welcomed the dignitaries by draping them with shawls.
Launched by Dattatreya during the Telangana statehood movement, Alai Balai was envisioned as a platform to foster unity among political leaders. Over the years, it has evolved into a cultural celebration reflecting Telangana’s unique traditions, cuisine, and spirit of brotherhood.

Call for Guinness Recognition
Former Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao expressed that the Alai Balai festivities deserve recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. He appreciated the efforts of Bandaru Dattatreya and Vijayalakshmi, noting that the event symbolizes fraternity as enshrined in the Indian Constitution and showcases Telangana’s cultural harmony.
