Hyderabad: The 231st birth anniversary celebrations of the prominent social reformer, freedom fighter, and revolutionary ‘Krantiguru’ Lahuji Raghoji Salve were held grandly at Ravindra Bharathi. The event was organized under the banner of ‘Rashtriya Swatantra Sankalp Diwas’ by Telangana Mang Samaj State President Gayakwad Tulasidas Mang, with the support of the Telangana Department of Language & Culture and the Telangana Sahitya Akademi.

Prof. C. Kasim, Principal of Osmania Arts College, attended the program as the Chief Guest. Dr. A. Narasimha Reddy (Director, Telangana Language & Culture Department), Dr. N. Balachari (Secretary, Telangana Sahitya Akademi), K. Maheshwar Raj (President, CONFED-SOMO Telangana), senior journalist and writer Jangiti Venkatesh, and others participated as Guests of Honour. The speakers recalled Salve’s remarkable role as one of the earliest mentors of armed revolutionaries who fought against British rule.

Leaders and dignitaries including J. Prem (General Secretary, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat Association), N. Yadagiri (BTF State President), Balakrishna (Chairman, People’s Education Trust), G. Vittal (Commercial Taxes), and High Court Advocate Anand Rao, among others, attended the event.

A Telugu book titled ‘Krantipita Guruvariya Lahuji Salve’, translated by Gayakwad Tulasidas Mang, was unveiled by the guests. Chief Guest Prof. C. Kasim praised Tulasidas for bringing the life of a great leader to the people in Telugu, describing the effort as historically significant. He emphasized that society must document and preserve its true history. The dignitaries felicitated Tulasidas Mang for his contribution as an author. A CD and video of a special song on Lahuji, written by Jangiti Venkatesh, were also released.

Speakers highlighted that Lahuji Salve dedicated his entire life to the cause of India’s freedom, as well as to supporting the social and educational movements led by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. They urged the government to include Salve’s life story in academic curricula. They also emphasized that Lahuji was the first to inspire the resolve for India’s independence and trained thousands of freedom fighters, making him a foundational figure in India’s liberation struggle. The Telangana Mang Samaj appealed to the government to officially declare his birth anniversary as ‘Rashtriya Swatantra Sankalp Diwas’.

Dance performances by Gayakwad Karthiksha and Gayakwad Rithisha, along with speeches highlighting Lahuji’s greatness, captivated the audience. Telangana Mang Samaj State General Secretary Kamblay Shankar Mang, Vice Presidents Gay Kamblay Govind Mang, Joint Secretary Gayakwad Chandrasekhar Mang, Hyderabad Committee President Kamblay Sudhakar Mang, Adilabad Committee President Gadekar Parashuram Mang, N. Ramakanth Mang, Telangana Secretariat officials, employees, leaders of various associations, students, women, and Mang Samaj members from several districts participated in the event.
